David Smith has been widely heralded as one of the greatest sculptors of the American century.
Each sculpture in Smith’s Tanktotem series which begun in 1952 and completed in the early 1960s, includes the round lid in whole or part of a commercially manufactured boiler tank. To a greater or lesser degree all of these sculptures are anthropomorphic; Tanktotem VII is a particularly elegant and refined work in the series.
It is this graceful beauty combined with its rigor that makes Tanktotem VII so appealing to me.

michael dweck, sonya
![](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zN3jufdV4cA/TyG9DId68hI/AAAAAAAAAB8/s2qIv0GVc2M/s320/sonya.jpg)
This is a photograph by Michael Dweck called "Sonya" and I like it because I think it expresses a sense of freedom. She's obviously naked which is an element of freedom, but she is also rushing to go surfing, maybe something she loves to do to escape from real life and all the problems with real life. Thats just my interpretation
