Victoria Russell- Fiona Shaw, 2002

I chose this image of the contemporary classical British actress, Victoria Russell because of how truly real it looked at first glance. If one were to come across this painting briefly it would be as though they were looking at a photograph. I also chose this painting because of the rawness that was captured by the painter, Fiona Shaw. The painting in itself is extremely simple, yet the complexity of the draping in the background as well as in her skirt is intriguing. It shows the majority of the female shape as is, with simple lighting and realistic colorations. Simple, real, beautiful.

  1. Um...you have the artist and the actress the wrong way round.
